Our Pastor – Dr. JACK DeVRIES

I'm Jack DeVries, the Senior Pastor here at FBC. It has been over 120 years since the First church building was erected at the corner of March and Albert Streets. The gospel of Jesus Christ has been proclaimed here for those many years, and it is that same gospel which we preach today. My wife, Patti, and I are excited about what God is doing here at First!

Our ministry journey over the years has taken us from Three Hills in Alberta to Kakabeka Falls, Ontario; from there to Hamilton, Ontario; then up to Blind River, and now to Sault Ste. Marie. As well as pastoring churches, we have served the Lord at Bible camps, an inner city ministry, and a Bible College.

In my educational pursuits, I earned a Bachelors degree in Theology, a Masters degree in Biblical Literature, and finally a Doctoral degree in Theology. Patti has a Bachelors degree in Psychology coupled with a Masters degree in Religious Education.

Patti and I have one daughter, Sheri, who is getting her Social Work degree at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

The Lord Jesus Christ is central at First Baptist Church and I leave you with these words which Matthew records for us in the New Testament book of Matthew:

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

- Matthew 11: 28-30
