On Tuesdays from 10 am - 10:45 am, from mid-May to the second week in September, volunteers hand out 1.5 litres of 2% milk (one per family) to anyone that comes by.
A devotional and invitation to our Sunday service and Life & Recovery program are attached to the bottle.
On special occasions, baking or treats may also be given out. In the winter, warm hats, mitts, gloves, socks or scarves are available, if needed.
History of the Program
The Neighbourhood Milk Program (NMP) has been active for about 25 years, with a brief stop during COVID. The goals of the NMP have been to serve and follow Jesus' directives in Matthew 25:34-36 to provide for the poor, hungry and thirsty; to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ; and to invite participants into the church family.
The NMP has undergone many changes over the years from providing sandwich bag lunches, with an in-house service, to our current ministry of providing milk with attached devotionals. In consultation with the Salvation Army, The Soup Kitchen, the Indian Friendship Centre, St. Vincent's Place and FBC, since September 2022, it was decided that giving out Milk would be a good addition to the current provisions that are already being given out by these local agencies.
Funding for this program is primarily received from generous donors from Committee Members, FBC Members, and from the Public.
