First Baptist Church Elevator Project

Our Need for an Elevator

First Baptist Church in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario has several elderly, disabled, and physically disadvantaged members in its congregation, many of whom attend services regularly and many more who would like to.  We serve a downtown area, but our heritage building no longer met modern standards of accessibility.  We have a fully functional basement area and a beautiful sanctuary, but it was separated by challenging flights of stairs.  (All washrooms are located downstairs.)

Evolving building codes would require us to make our building fully accessible in the next few years.  Encouraged by seed money left to us for the purpose in a generous bequest, we embarked on a major renovation project to install a small elevator in the building, renovate washrooms to make them handicap accessible, and restructure our parking lot & driveway to allow ground-level entry to our building.

The project is now complete and we're paying off some loans taken out to complete the project in a timely manner.  FBC is inviting past and distant members, visitors, and friends of our Church to make an on-line donation to our Elevator Fund.
